T-Mobile will eliminate 77 positions across Washington state, a move that permanently shuts down seven retail stores and reaches from frontline sales staff to senior corporate leadership.
The cuts land between Sept. 21 and Nov. 18, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filed with the Washington Employment Security Department. They hit Bellevue headquarters, regional retail locations, and remote workers alike.
The reductions sweep across multiple tiers of the organization. Retail mobile experts and account care specialists face layoffs alongside principal systems architects and senior directors. Of the 77 total, 63 represent newly disclosed cuts while 14 stem from previously announced departures now deferred to fall.
Meanwhile, the store closures span the state. Seattle’s 45th & Stone Way location will go dark, as will sites in Bellingham, Bothell, Kennewick, Tacoma, Vancouver, and Yakima.
A T-Mobile spokesperson framed the decision as routine resource allocation. “We’re constantly viewing at where we allocate our resources so we can invest in the areas that matter the most to our customers,” the spokesperson said in an emailed statement. The company continues hiring in priority areas, they added, while making “adjustments where required” to sustain momentum.
The broader strategy involves shifting retail operations toward company-operated stores integrated with digital tools like the T-Life app. Third-party dealer locations bear the brunt of that transition, and those changes do not affect T-Mobile employees directly, the spokesperson noted. Workers affected by store modifications can apply for positions elsewhere or relocate.
Some facility relocations also contributed to the latest round, with certain employees offered transfer options, per the filing. This follows a larger reduction in February, when T-Mobile cut 393 Washington jobs, including vice president roles.
