T-Mobile will eliminate 77 positions across Washington state this fall, joining a wave of workforce reductions that has reshaped the wireless carrier’s Northwest footprint.
The Bellevue-based company filed notice with the state Employment Security Department, confirming separations running from September 21 through November 18. Sixty-three of those workers learned of their layoffs for the first time, while 14 others had previously received warnings. Their departure dates shifted and now fall inside that same window.
Company officials attributed the cuts to changing business requirements and classified them as permanent.
Some employees may receive relocation offers tied to the restructuring, according to the filing. The layoffs reach across Bellevue, Seattle, Bellingham, Bothell, Vancouver, Kennewick, Tacoma and Yakima, affecting both on-site staff and remote workers.
Seven retail locations will close as a result. Those include stores on 45th Street and Stone Way in Seattle, Bakerview Road near Interstate 5 in Bellingham, Canyon Pointe in Bothell, Chkalov Drive in Vancouver, plus locations in Tacoma, Yakima and Kennewick.
Meanwhile, T-Mobile intends to keep its Bellevue headquarters buildings and Bellingham call center operational.
The affected roles span product and engineering directors, technical project managers, product managers, systems architects, mobile associates and retail store managers. No union represents workers at these sites, and employees hold no bumping rights that might cushion the blow.
The cuts arrive as telecom companies nationwide recalibrate staffing levels against shifting consumer demand and ongoing network investments. For Washington, the losses concentrate in both technical leadership and frontline retail positions, signaling pressure from multiple directions at once.
