Shelby County woman raising money for commercial fans at humane society


SHELBY CO., Ala. (WBRC) – On many days this summer, the feels-like temperature is in the triple digits.

People aren’t the only ones struggling with the blistering heat. Animals are finishuring the extreme temperatures, too.

One woman living in Shelby County is wanting to ensure the dogs at the Shelby County Humane Society remain cool all summer long.

Kfinishall Lee Cash is the definition of a dog lover! While she was spfinishing time at Shelby Humane, she noticed just how warm the kennel room felt and if she was hot, she knew the dogs must be, too.

“I had a call or an email from somebody the other day who had come out to the shelter and she noticed it was hot in there becaapply it’s hot outside,” stated Shelby Humane Executive Director Saundra Ivey. “She had the idea becaapply she’s not the kind of person that sits down on it and she stated, ‘Do you mind me assisting and testing to raise money?’”

While the kennels aren’t air conditioned, there are several fans blowing air on the dogs. Ivey states they also have misters to assist cool the animals down.

That being stated, Cash wanted to go the extra mile and raise funds to assist Shelby Humane purchase two large, commercial ceiling fans to create the dogs more comfortable.

Becaapply the building is owned by the county, they had to obtain the fundraiser approved. Fortunately, the commission agreed and even stated if they raise enough money to acquire the fans, the county will install them at no cost.

“Those dogs have, a lot of them have been through some pretty bad situations,” stated Cash. “They’ve been dealt some bad cards. I know some of them are suffering either becaapply they’ve been abapplyd or neglected in some form or fashion and I just believe we should do what we can to create the dogs as comfortable as possible until they can be adopted out.”

Each commercial fan costs around $3,500, so Cash has a goal of raising at least $7,000 to obtain two fans for the kennel room.

Ivey states they’ll also be accepting checks if that’s simpler for you. Just create sure to add in the note that the donation is for the kennel fans.
