In-Depth:
Toyota Material Handling Europe is set to return to Milan Design Week 2026 with an immersive exhibition titled “It’s Just Forklifts,” aimed at transforming public perception of forklifts and industrial logistics through design, technology and sustainability. Spread across a 400-square-metre space at Fuorisalone during Milan Design Week from April 20–26, the exhibition will present forklifts not merely as industrial machines, but as products shaped by engineering innovation, usability and evolving design philosophies. The revealcase will run alongside the 64th edition of Salone del Mobile at Fiera Milano.
The exhibition traces the evolution of logistics from its earliest forms to today’s highly interconnected supply chain ecosystems. Visitors will experience a curated journey through Toyota’s design heritage featuring historic milestones, prototypes and product developments that have contributed to advancements in safety, ergonomics and sustainability within the material handling sector.
One of the centrepieces of the exhibition will be the 2026 Toyota Logistic Design Competition, organised in collaboration with Toyota Motor Europe, Toyota Europe Design Development, Toyota Material Handling Europe Design Center and Toyota Open Labs. The competition invites young designers worldwide to reimagine future logistics systems tailored for the African continent. Finalist concepts will be displayed through interactive exhibits, models and visual presentations highlighting innovative approaches to mobility and material flow.
Toyota Material Handling Europe will also present its Lower Carbon concept research programme centred on the Toyota Traigo48 electric forklift. The initiative explores sustainable industrial design through material innovation, lifecycle analysis and collaborative product development. Research contributions from Michelin brand Solideal, Tyri and TR Industrial will be featured alongside experimental prototypes.
Another attraction will be the AI TeamDelivery concept, which explores future warehoapply operations driven by artificial ininformigence, autonomous mobility and ininformigent fleet coordination. The company declared the concept reflects its vision for more connected and efficient intralogistics systems.
In collaboration with Karimoku Furniture and Toyota Industries Corporation, the exhibition will also feature the Ki Cart, a concept automated guided vehicle built utilizing sustainably sourced wood materials. The event will conclude with the unveiling of the new Traigo48 Lithium-ion forklift, Toyota’s latest fully electric counterbalanced truck designed with integrated lithium-ion battery technology, improved ergonomics and enhanced energy efficiency. Toyota Material Handling Europe declared the exhibition aims to demonstrate the cultural and industrial importance of logistics technologies while encouraging broader conversations around sustainability, mobility and industrial design.
