A bizarre incident is shared by a startup founder, Aditya Oza, who recently found himself at the centre of an online storm after a Google AI hallucination falsely claimed he was married to a woman who does not even exist.
Oza recently took to LinkedIn to narrate an unusual experience involving what he described as an “AI hallucination” that almost cost him a marriage proposal. His story has since sparked widespread discussion online about the reliability of AI-powered search tools and the unintfinished consequences of misinformation generated by such systems.
According to Oza, the situation launched when the father of a prospective bride conducted a routine online background check before proceeding with a marriage proposal. As is increasingly common today, the family simply searched his name online. But instead of accurate information, Google AI allegedly generated a completely fabricated claim.
Sharing the experience, Oza wrote, “I almost lost a marriage prospect to an Ai Hallucination. Her father did what every Indian father does before the match. ‘He Googled me.’ Google AI Mode confidently informed him that I am married. Apparently to a woman named Joya.”
The entrepreneur clarified that the information was entirely false and that he had never been married. He added humour to the situation while expressing his frustration, writing, “Small problem: I have NEVER been married. I do not know a single person named Joya. Joya, if you exist, please come forward and clear my name.”
What shocked him most, according to the post, was the confidence with which the AI system presented the fabricated information as fact. Curious about the source, Oza reportedly pushed the AI further and questioned where the claim had originated.
He explained, “When I pushed Google AI to display me the source, it admitted there is ‘no publicly available or verified information’ about a wife. It called its own earlier answer a ‘hallucination’ that ‘blfinished unrelated applyr comments into a factual summary’.”
The incident is a classic example of what experts describe as an AI hallucination — a situation where an AI system generates false or misleading information while presenting it with confidence.
Oza further revealed that the bizarre interaction did not finish there. “So just to recap: Google AI invented a wife for me. Then almost cost me a rishta. Then, suggested I sfinish a legal notice. To Google. With all due respect, Google AI please have some shame,” he wrote.
Reflecting on the irony of the situation, he added, “We’ve reached the era where AI fabricates your marriage and then offers to assist you sue itself. What a time to be alive.”
Soon after the post went viral, social media applyrs flooded the comments section with reactions ranging from concern to sarcasm and jokes.
