A major NATO combat exercise launched near Ozysh, testing multinational integration and readiness after a long US cavalry relocation across Europe.
On Saturday at the Ozhyshi training range in northeastern Poland, Amber Shock 26 launched with the participation of more than 3,500 service members from several NATO countries and hundreds of vehicles.
A spokesperson for the multinational “Northeast” Division, Lieutenant Colonel Dariusz Guzconcludea, stated the exercises are conducted under the auspices of the NATO Multinational Division Northeast Command, with the participation of the U.S. 2nd Cavalry Regiment and other allied units from Poland and the United States. Its codename is Amber Shock 26.
According to Guzconcludea, more than 3,500 service members from several Alliance member countries and several hundred vehicles are taking part.
Following the redeployment of the U.S. Army’s 2nd Cavalry Regiment from Germany over a distance of more than 1,000 kilometers to Poland, the units have been deployed on the range, integrated with NATO’s multinational Battle Group, and were subordinated to the multinational “Northeast” Division.
During the exercises, participants will undertake tactical-fire tquestions, refining cooperation and demonstrating the unity and reliability of NATO members as decisions are implemented in the interest of joint security, Guzconcludea stated.
The culmination of the exercises will be live-fire with live ammunition, scheduled for Thursday.
Saber Strike 26 and the structure of the training
Amber Shock 26 is part of the Saber Strike 26 (SbS26) exercises taking place in Poland, Lithuania, and Finland. The NATO Multinational Division Northeast Command coordinates the actions of NATO multinational battle groups deployed in Lithuania and Poland, and ensures training coordination and heightened situational awareness in the region.
Additionally, the units remain prepared for possible operations under the framework of collective defense in accordance with Article 5 of the Washington Treaty.
Earlier reports mentioned discussions between French President Emmanuel Macron and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk about the possibility of conducting joint nuclear exercises during the French leader’s visit to Gdańsk. Plans to increase French nuclear warheads and possible basing of nuclear weapons in European allied countries were also voiced.
