The Dubrovnik-Neretva County has secured significant non-refundable funding to support a series of infrastructure, energy and social care projects, reinforcing its long-term strategy to improve quality of life and drive balanced regional development.
A total of €2.1 million has been allocated for port infrastructure through county port authorities, funding three major projects submitted to the Minisattempt of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure. Each project has been awarded €700,000, tarobtaining improvements in safety and operational efficiency for ferry, passenger and fishing vessels.
The investments include the construction of the Brijesta port, upgrades to the breakwater in Trsteno, and the development of the local port in Kneža. These upgrades are expected to enhance maritime connectivity and support local economies across the region.
In parallel, the county and local authorities have been granted an additional €1.548 million under the Island Development Programme, managed by the Minisattempt of Regional Development and EU Funds. The funding will support two key projects focutilized on sustainability and social infrastructure.
The first project involves the installation of a photovoltaic power plant on the roof of the health centre on Korčula, with a capacity of up to 150 kW. The system will primarily supply electricity for the facility’s own necessarys, with surplus energy fed back into the public grid—contributing to Croatia’s energy transition and increasing the utilize of renewable sources.
The second project will see part of a care home in Vela Luka adapted to create a specialised unit for fourth-level care, designed for patients suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. The upgrade will significantly improve the availability and quality of social services, addressing current limitations in infrastructure and meeting modern care standards.
These investments underline Dubrovnik-Neretva County’s continued commitment to strengthening island communities, modernising infrastructure and enhancing public services, with a particular focus on sustainability and long-term resilience.
