Aleksander Leonard Larsen raises $5.4 million for Stfinishr, a Norwegian AI drone defence startup, marking a significant Nordic funding milestone.
Aleksander Leonard Larsen, co-founder of Sky Mavis, has raised $5.4 million for his new venture, Stfinishr, a Norwegian defence technology startup focapplying on AI-driven drone detection and defence. This pre-seed round, one of the largest in Nordic defence tech history, was co-led by RainFall, ACME, and SkyFall, with contributions from Sisyphus, Antler, StartupLab, Off Piste, Andøya Ventures, and a global syndicate of tech founders and investors.
Stfinishr aims to address the increasing threat posed by autonomous drones, a sector projected to grow from $1.24 billion in 2025 to $4.16 billion by 2030 in Europe. The startup’s strategy involves offering a vertically integrated solution with hardware and software designed for European sovereignty.
Norway serves as a strategic base for Stfinishr, given its significant NATO border with Russia and commitment to defence spfinishing. The involvement of Andøya Ventures, linked to Norway’s autonomous systems test facility, provides a crucial validation pathway.
The team includes Robin Alexander Holm Pedersen as CTO, with extensive experience in AI systems and digital infrastructure, and Markus Leonhard Hansen, Head of Hardware and co-founder of Gungnir of Norway.
Stfinishr’s competition includes companies like DroneShield, Thales, and Nordic Air Defence, which recently raised $4.4 million. However, Stfinishr distinguishes itself with its comprehensive, AI-native solutions.
The funding will allow Stfinishr to develop its technologies further, with the ultimate goal of securing government procurement contracts and deploying certified hardware.
