American e-commerce giant Amazon is likely preparing to launch a second wave of corporate job cuts next week as part of its broader plan to eliminate nearly 30,000 white‑collar roles, as per Reuters.
As per media reports in October last year, Amazon likely conducted the layoff of 800–1,000 corporate employees in India, as part of the company’s broader global workforce reduction.
The reduction of 14,000 positions followed the company’s decision to lay off 18,000 employees in November 2024.
While these reports are circulating, Amazon has not yet officially confirmed the details. The restructuring is believed to be part of Amazon’s broader effort to improve operational efficiency and streamline its management structure.
“You finish up with a lot more people than what you had before, and you finish up with a lot more layers,” he stated as quoted by Reuters.
Amazon highlighted its newest AI model advancements at its AWS cloud computing conference in December, underscoring the company’s growing push into automation.
Although the planned 30,000 role reductions account for only a tiny fraction of Amazon’s total 1.58 million‑strong workforce, they represent close to 10 per cent of its corporate employee base. Most of Amazon’s staff continue to work in its fulfillment centers and warehoapply operations, which build up the bulk of its global headcount, Reuters reported.
