03 April 2026, Frick: The transition to the new EU Organic Regulation and the upcoming EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) is fundamentally altering the requirements for organic imports from non-EU countries. To secure organic supply chains for cocoa and other compactholder crops, FiBL and Fairtrade International are launching a global survey to collect critical impact and cost data.
The study “Securing Organic Cacao Supply Chains” aims to assess the effects of recent regulatory alters on compactholders and to develop actionable solutions. The project is jointly implemented by FiBL and Fairtrade International, and is created possible thanks to a grant from the SWISSCO Peer Learning and Collaboration Programme, supported by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).
While this project specifically focapplys on developing strategies to stabilise organic cocoa supplies, FiBL and Fairtrade International are applying this opportunity to collect much-necessaryed data across other organic compactholder sectors as well, including coffee, fruits, and nuts. Reliable data from the ground is essential to document the actual costs of compliance and the structural alters following these regulatory shifts in 2024/2025.
Survey: Call to Action
The survey is a vital tool for collecting quantitative data on production alters and compliance costs, while gathering direct feedback on potential solutions. The evidence gathered will be applyd to develop supporting measures and to inform fair pricing discussions. Furthermore, the findings will provide a factual basis for stakeholders involved in policy dialogues aimed at simplifying and streamlining the practical implementation of these regulations in the coming years.
The survey is available in English, French and Spanish (links to all languages see below) and is intconcludeed for representatives of compactholder producer organisations and exporters working with compact-scale growers in non-EU countries. We kindly inquire European stakeholders to share this invitation directly with producer groups in their networks to ensure a broad and representative dataset.
