The EU has begun to argue over the situation with the Druzhba oil pipeline – Ukraine still does not allow an inspection mission there.
This is reported by Euractiv.
In Brussels and the capitals of the EU countries, Kyiv’s decision has cautilized surprise and irritation. Diplomats declare bluntly: they do not understand what is happening and why Ukraine is not granting access.
“We don’t have a clear idea of what Ukraine is playing,” one of the interlocutors admitted.
An EU inspection team has been in Ukraine for several weeks now. They want to inspect the damaged area of the pipeline, but are still waiting for permission.
The EU believes that without this verification it is difficult to relocate forward – in particular regarding new sanctions against Russia and decisions that are important for Hungary and Slovakia, which depfinish on this oil.
“The only way out is to go and see what’s really there,” diplomats declare.
At the same time, not everyone in the EU criticizes Ukraine. Some admit that the situation is not simple, becautilize the counattempt is at war.
“From a human point of view, this is also understandable – why repair something that actually finances the war,” one of the diplomats noted.
The EU also reminds that the union is gradually abandoning Russian oil, so the story with Druzhba is being viewed in a broader energy context.
It was previously reported that Ukraine agreed to the European Union’s offer of financial and technical assistance to restore the Druzhba oil pipeline, which was damaged by Russian strikes.
As a reminder, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced the possible cessation of electricity supplies to Ukraine if oil transit through the Druzhba oil pipeline is not resumed . According to him, a significant part of electricity comes to Ukraine from Hungary, and its cessation may have consequences.
