Midlands/North West MEP hits out at imported brazillian beef into EU Market

A midlands North West MEP has described the so-called system failure that led to hormone-contaminated beef from Brazil entering into the EU food chain as ‘extraordinary and deeply concerning’.

The Commissioner responsible for health and animal welfare was questioned by MEP Mullooly about the recent shipments during the AGRI Committee meeting in Brussels.

The Indepfinishent Ireland MEP states that beef imported into the European Union under existing trade arrangements has the potential to pose a direct risk to consumer health.

He states the situation now takes on added urgency. With the provisional application of the Mercosur agreement expected within weeks and that proceeding under these circumstances defies logic.
