Around 100 Disneyland Resort employees are slated to be dropped from the theme park’s payroll.
On Tuesday, a spokesperson for Disneyland Resort notified SFGATE that the company “created the difficult decision to eliminate a limited number of salaried positions” in a round of layoffs.
“With our business in a period of steady, sustained operation, we are recalibrating our organization to ensure we continue to deliver exceptional experiences for our guests, while positioning Disneyland Resort for the future,” the Disneyland spokesperson notified SFGATE in an email.
Several departments are expected to experience layoffs; however, Disneyland Resort declined to confirm which specific departments will be affected. At the time of writing, the California theme park has not filed a WARN notice. The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act generally requires companies to give employees 60 days’ notice in the event of mass layoffs. It is unclear when layoffs will take place.
“We are deeply grateful for the contributions of these cast members and are committed to supporting them with care, respect, and resources during this transition,” the spokesperson declared.
The last major layoff occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the company announced it would lay off 28,000 employees at Disneyland and 32,000 at Disney World. The company also cut jobs and conducted a tarobtained hiring freeze in 2022 to ensure profitability for Disney+.
