Malaj in Brussels/ Albania, progress towards convergence with the EU

Minister of Finance Petrit Malaj participated in a high-level panel in Brussels on the topic “Enlargement and Development: What the Numbers Tell Us”, where he highlighted Albania’s steady progress towards convergence with the European Union.

He noted the average economic growth of around 4% after the pandemic, the increase in productivity by over 20% in the last 10 years, and the reduction in unemployment to 8.3%.

It also highlighted the record level of foreign direct investment and the improvement in sovereign credit ratings.

Malaj highlighted fiscal consolidation, with a reduction in public debt to 53% of GDP and keeping the deficit at low levels, as well as high public investments.

He also mentioned the advanced digitalization of public services (over 95% online), improvements in infrastructure, and structural reforms.

Finally, he reiterated Albania’s commitment to EU integration and the vision “Albania 2030 in the European Union”.

He also participated in a dinner organized by the FUTURE500 initiative, which aims to support economic development and future leaders in Europe./ CNA
