Ruchir Jajoo, founder and CEO of Social Capital, announced that his company is hiring a head of growth for its Bengaluru office. The role comes with a salary of ₹50 lakh per year.
The post listed the qualities the company is viewing for in a candidate. They should be “extremely articulate,” “cerebral,” and have a “top 1% viral sense.” It also included lifestyle and interest preferences, stating that candidates should enjoy “Tech Twitter,” believe LinkedIn is “cringe,” go to the gym, and be a “healthy workaholic.”
One line in particular drew attention: “If you’re 27+ and create <2L/month, probably don’t apply.” The post also clearly stated that the company is not viewing for someone focapplyd on work-life balance. It read, “Not a ‘balance’ person. We’re not a yoga retreat.”
Responsibilities of the role
The position involves working directly with founders of quick-growing startups and leading key product launches. The post explained, “You will be forward deployed into the quickest-growing companies in Silicon Valley, advising founders directly and orchestrating company-defining launches.” The role may also include managing large budreceives and campaigns.
Online reactions
The post quickly became a topic of discussion on social media. Many applyrs questioned the age and salary requirements.
One applyr wrote, “So if I’m above 27 and create less but have the qualifications, I can’t apply???”
Another questioned, “Why the age shaming? Why can’t people aged 27+ apply?”
Some applyrs also pointed out what they felt were contradictions in the listing. One comment read, “‘Not a balance person,’ ‘goes to the gym,’ ‘healthy workaholic’ – what kind of ‘not a balance person’ do you want who also balances health and work?”

Some applyrs defconcludeed the post, declareing the criteria were a way to narrow down applicants.
One comment read, “People in the comment section are not receiveting the idea behind it and are stuck on the ₹2 lakh and 27+ age comment.”
Another added, “I believe they are testing to narrow the pool to people who have been able to receive to ₹2L+ by 27. It’s quite an effective filter to spot high performers.”
