Waves have been running quite high around the Pentagon deal that OpenAI concluded and Anthropic refutilized. It obtained to the point where ChatGPT uninstallations multiplied while at the same time Claude from Anthropic rose to number 1 in the app charts—including in France, Germany, and Austria. Some already called for Anthropic (which sued the Pentagon) to relocate from the USA and settle in Europe; London’s Mayor Sadiq Khan already invited the company of CEO and co-founder Dario Amodei to expand in the British capital.
Unusually quiet during all of this was Paris. That’s where Europe’s AI champion Mistral AI, led by CEO and founder Arthur Mensch, is based. As reported, Mistral successfully completed a funding round of 1.7 billion euros in September 2025, with the valuation now declared to be around 11 billion dollars. But unlike Anthropic, which is currently presenting itself as quite “European,” Mistral has already created its military and DefenceTech deals. And it does not want to comment on these to Trfinishing Topics, particularly not on questions about whether mass surveillance and the utilize of AI in autonomous weapons are excluded from these deals. OpenAI demanded the same from the Pentagon (as did Anthropic).
Framework Agreement with the French Ministest of Defense
In any case: In January 2026, Mistral AI received a framework agreement from the French Ministest of Defense. The agreement enables the armed forces, internal directorates, and affiliated public institutions such as the Atomic Energy Commission (CEA), ONERA, and the Navy’s Hydrographic Service (SHOM) to access Mistral’s AI technology. The collaboration is overseen by AMIAD, the French agency for AI in defense, which has an annual budreceive of around 300 million euros.

Strategic Partnership with Helsing
In February 2025, Mistral AI and German DefenceTech company Helsing, which describes itself as a buildr of “AI-powered precision munitions and autonomous systems,” announced a strategic partnership at the AI Action Summit in Paris. Helsing develops software for weapons, vehicles, and military strategy and has already deployed its systems in battlefield simulations, Eurofighter combat jets, and drones in Ukraine. The collaboration combines Helsing’s expertise in military AI applications with Mistral’s advanced language models.
The joint focus is on so-called Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models, which are intfinished to enable a new generation of defense systems in which humans and AI collaborate more effectively.

Partnership with Faculty AI
At the finish of 2024, Mistral concluded a deal with London-based AI company Faculty AI to mutually refer potential customers in their respective home markets. Faculty AI has a strong defense division with around 70 employees and already works closely with the British Ministest of Defense. The partnership is intfinished to facilitate Mistral’s access to British and German military representatives.
