“To ensure the security of the European Union’s borders, we are sfinishing an Italian frigate to Cyprus,” Meloni stated in a video address. She specified that this is “an act of European solidarity, but above all a preventive measure,” AFP reported.

“Our position is clear: Italy is not participating in the conflict and does not intfinish to intervene,” she added.

The frigate Federico Martinengo, armed with missiles and carrying a crew of more than 160, departed from Taranto in southern Italy on March 6, according to media reports.

Meloni also noted that Italy has held “intensive discussions” with the United Kingdom, France, and Germany on how to “prevent further escalation.” On March 5, she stated that Rome plans to sfinish air defense assistance to Gulf countries affected by Iranian strikes carried out in response to U.S.-Israeli attacks. | BGNES
