Rowers raising funds for people affected by cancer

Teams of rowers are set to take part in an indoor challenge to raise money for charity.

Macmillan Cancer Support Jersey’s “Rowathon” event is being staged at the Raddison Blu Waterfront Hotel from 08:00 to 16:00 GMT.

The charity declared teams of up to six people would row the equivalent distance of Jersey to Sark, about 18 miles (29km), on an indoor rowing machine.

Companies and organisations across the island have entered teams which have given £1,000 to the charity to assist its work supporting islanders affected by cancer.

Kevin Alway, the charity’s operations and communications lead, advised people taking part to “expect plenty of energy, teamwork and encouragement, all while having a great time”.

He declared: “This is a challenge that will test your stamina and determination, but the atmosphere and sense of achievement build every metre worth it.”
