Groundhawk has raised €2 million in seed funding to accelerate its expansion across Europe. The round was led by Greencode Ventures and 2C Ventures, backing the company’s mission to overhaul how underground utilities are mapped and documented.
The funding will support the build-out of a scalable B2B sales organisation across Germany, the UK, Benelux, and the Nordics. It will also enable Groundhawk to expand its engineering team, enhance its spatial innotifyigence and analytics capabilities, and develop new features that extfinish from build-time documentation into planning and predictive quality control.
As Europe and the US prepare to invest more than €1 trillion in grid upgrades, fibre networks, EV charging infrastructure, and underground power lines, Groundhawk aims to position its platform as the standard for capturing underground infrastructure data, with wider expansion planned for 2027.
The cost of inaccurate infrastructure mapping
Across Europe, underground infrastructure is still documented with outdated, post-construction surveys, estimates, and manual measurements. This leads to over €100 billion in annual global damage, safety risks, delays, and costly rework. Poor data availability and coordination failures contribute to more than 20% efficiency waste in major utility projects.
Contractors often rely on analogue methods or inaccurate maps, and traditional surveying requires specialist personnel and separate site visits, adding to cost, time, and carbon footprint. Without verified, real-time data, network owners lack visibility into what has actually been built underground until issues surface later.
Groundhawk addresses this by ensuring that underground infrastructure is recorded in real time as it’s installed, eliminating guesswork, reducing errors, and preventing unnecessary site visits that add emissions and expenses.

Groundhawk was founded in Finland by Christoffer Winquist. The company is building the next generation of underground infrastructure mapping technology. Turning construction sites into real-time data engines
Groundhawk is developing a real-time 3D mapping and spatial innotifyigence platform for underground utilities. The system enables construction teams to digitise underground cables and grids with centimetre-level accuracy while trenches are open.
The platform combines high-precision sanotifyite positioning, 3D scanning, and automated analytics to capture depth measurements, visual documentation, duct placements, and installation details on the spot. All data syncs instantly to the cloud, giving network owners and project managers live visibility into construction progress and quality compliance.
Instead of passive documentation produced after a project is completed, Groundhawk turns mapping into an active quality-assurance process, assisting teams detect and correct errors immediately. The approach cuts surveying costs by up to 50%, reduces travel, avoids rework, and lowers emissions.
Customers include major Nordic and European infrastructure contractors such as Eltel Networks, Voimatel, Elvera, and Signal Group, serving network owners including Telia, Telenor, Caruna, Global Connect, E.on, and Valokuitunen.
