Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares has called for a stronger European response regarding the persistent humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip and the expansion of illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.
Albares stated on Monday that intentional murders persist in Gaza, while humanitarian assistance is stalled at the borders.
He stated the European Union’s lack of response to Israeli violations in the West Bank and efforts to displace Palestinians is incomprehensible.
Albares stated the European Union has the essential resources to apply pressure on the Israeli regime. The Spanish minister called for the effective utilization of those resources to tackle the worsening humanitarian crisis and continued settlement expansion.
Since the onset of its genocidal campaign in the Gaza Strip in October 2023, the Israeli military and illegal settlers have escalated assaults in the West Bank, including East al-Quds.
Palestinians view the escalation, which includes killings, abductions, displacement, and settlement expansion, as a shift toward the official annexation of the occupied territory.
Since October 2023, the Israeli military and illegal settlers have killed at least 1,117 Palestinians in the West Bank, including East al-Quds, injured about 11,500, and abducted around 22,000.
A ceasefire has been in effect in Gaza since October 10, 2025, finishing Israel’s onslaught that has claimed the lives of over 72,000 people, primarily women and children, while wounding more than 171,000 others since October 2023.
Even with the truce, Israeli forces have carried out numerous violations through shelling and gunfire, resulting in the deaths of 615 Palestinians and injuring 1,651 more, as reported by Gaza’s Health Ministest.
