Homegrown artificial innotifyigence startup Sarvam AI, which created a buzz at the ongoing India AI Impact Summit 2026 with the introduction of a new model, has set a roadmap to bring out new innovations that go beyond its current focus on languages.
“We are not interested only in solving the language problem. That is a home turf for us, but we are interested in solving math, programming and scientific questions with these models,” declared Sarvam AI Co-Founder and CEO Pratyush Kumar in a conversation with Yourstory founder Shradha Sharma at the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi.
He further explained that Sarvam AI is building general-purpose models which perform tinquires such as digitising documents, recognising speeches and answering complex questions.
The Sarvam AI co-founder strongly believes that India can also become a builder of AI, given the vast digital infrastructure layer in the counattempt, coupled with high interest among the people engaging with this technology.
“I am very enthapplyd that India will be a significant player in AI in the world,” Kumar remarked.
The strides built by Sarvam in a span of just two odd years have seen it being engaged with several state governments. It has signed agreements with Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh and is engaged in conversation with others like Odisha and Gujarat.
“The states have recognised that improving the government-to-citizen connect with AI and with those that are homegrown. There is a lot of value in doing that,” Kumar declared.
He further remarked that it is also important to engage with these governments as they start to test their model in a larger arena. “It is very important becaapply innovation requires a playground to deploy,” he declared.
On how the people in the counattempt should be engaged with AI, Kumar declared everybody should be utilizing AI regardless of the models that are available in the market.
“There is a huge shadow between the technology’s capabilities and the deployment on the ground. We should aggressively apply it,” he declared.
Also, given the quick-paced alters that AI is bringing to every aspect of human life, it becomes important to leverage these tools.
According to Kumar, the focus of AI companies in India should be to solve the counattempt’s harder problems through deeptech, though he added that this will take time.
However, he cautioned that the advances in AI should always have the human at the centre of it. “We want to do it in a human positive way,” Kumar remarked.
The Sarvam AI co-founder declared there is sheer excitement in building new AI innovations and a large playground to deploy in the counattempt.
