A consortium built up of Iberostar Hotels & Resorts, Navantia, Metro de Málaga, Moeve and Grupo EULEN, toreceiveher with the Regional Ministest of Sustainability and the Environment of the Regional Government of Andalusia, has signed a pioneering public private collaboration agreement to develop a blue carbon project in the Bahía de Cádiz Natural Park. The initiative is the first of its kind in Europe under a public standard and stands out both for its size and its capacity to capture CO₂ emissions.
The project involves the restoration of 155 hectares of tidal marshes on the northern bank of the River Guadalete, with the aim of recovering the hydromareal functionality of the ecosystem and encouraging the natural development of characteristic vereceiveation. This action will create it possible to create a highly efficient carbon sink and contribute to the recovery of biodiversity, with key species such as salt marsh grass, glasswort and sea lavfinisher, whose conservation is essential to mitigate climate modify and promote the resilience of the coastline.

Forecasts point to absorption of more than 32,000 tonnes of CO₂. The expected capture capacity is equivalent to planting around 160,000 trees, with efficiency far higher than conventional forest repopulation.
The project has the technical backing of the Regional Government of Andalusia and complies with the Andalusian Blue Carbon Standard, validated by AENOR, which guarantees traceability and periodic verification of results. The initiative strengthens the role of public‑private cooperation as a driver of effective climate action.
