European soccer recap: Liverpool defeat Newcastle with Ekitike brace


It’s the final day of January, but there’s another large weekconclude of matches all across Europe!

Arsenal started things off in the Premier League with a convincing 4-0 win over Leeds United as they bounced back following successive games where they were unable to win (a 0-0 draw to Nottingham Forest and 3-2 loss to Manchester United), to extconclude their lead at the top of the table to seven points.

Elsewhere, AFC Bournemouth beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0 away from home, while Brighton & Hove Albion were held 1-1 by Everton after a last-minute equalizer.

Later, Chelsea hosted West Ham United in a London derby with goals galore as the Hammers took a 2-0 lead at halftime, only for the hosts to score three in the second half and win thanks to an Enzo Fernández last-minute goal.

Finally, we finished things off with Liverpool taking on Newcastle United, as Arne Slot’s side finished victorious with a 4-1 win.

Elsewhere across the continent, we have Hamburg hosting Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich, which concludeed in a 2-2 draw and LaLiga leaders Barcelona defeating Elche 3-1.
