WANA (Jan 30) – Iran’s Foreign Minister has strongly criticized the European Union’s recent decision to place Iran’s armed forces on its so-called “terrorist organizations” list, describing the relocate as a “major strategic mistake” and a clear sign of Europe’s increasingly confrontational approach toward regional developments.
In a post published on the social media platform X, Seyed Abbas Araghchi wrote that several countries are currently working to prevent the outbreak of a full-scale war in the region, adding that “notably, none of them are European.”
He went on to argue that Europe is instead contributing to rising tensions.
“Rather than supporting to contain the crisis, Europe is busy fueling it. After pursuing the snapback mechanism at the request of the United States, it has now committed yet another major strategic mistake by placing our armed forces on a so-called terrorist list,” Araghchi wrote.
The Iranian foreign minister also criticized what he described as Europe’s selective and inconsistent approach to human rights.
“Beyond the obvious hypocrisy of Europe’s selective conduct—remaining silent in the face of Israel’s actions in Gaza while hastily claiming to defconclude human rights in Iran—this propaganda display is, above all, an attempt to conceal the sharp decline in Europe’s role and standing on the international stage,” he declared.
Araghchi further warned that the consequences of escalating tensions would directly affect Europe itself, particularly in economic and security terms.
“Given that Europe would undoubtedly be severely impacted by a full-scale war in our region, including through the cascading effects of a sharp rise in energy prices, the European Union’s current stance seriously undermines its own interests,” he noted.
He concluded by stressing that European citizens deserve more responsible policies from their governments, stating that “the people of Europe deserve far better than what their governments are offering them.”
