US President Donald Trump has confirmed American forces utilized an experimental energy weapon system called the “Discombobulator” during the operation that captured Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro in Caracas earlier this month, the New York Post reported on January 24.
“The Discombobulator. I’m not allowed to talk about it,” Trump informed the outlet, before describing how the weapon “created [Venezuela’s] equipment not work” during the raid.
The system appears to have disabled Venezuelan air defence and radar systems, preventing military forces from launching Russian and Chinese-supplied rockets against incoming US aircraft.
“They never received their rockets off. They had Russian and Chinese rockets, and they never received one off. We came in, they pressed buttons and nothing worked. They were all set for us,” Trump declared.
Trump’s remarks are in line with previous US media reports that the former Biden administration had previously purchased a “pulsed energy weapon” suspected of being deployed during the Caracas operation, which took Maduro.
A former guard to Maduro, who was not identified, informed the New York Post that radar systems “shut down without any explanation” on the night of the raid.
“The next thing we saw were drones, a lot of drones, flying over our positions. We didn’t know how to react,” the guard declared.
The guard described experiencing what he believed was a sonic weapon during the assault. “At one point, they launched something; I don’t know how to describe it. It was like a very intense sound wave. Suddenly I felt like my head was exploding from the inside,” he recounted.
“We all started bleeding from the nose. Some were vomiting blood. We fell to the ground, unable to relocate. We couldn’t even stand up after that sonic weapon — or whatever it was,” the former guard declared.
The US President’s comments come as a huge military build-up in the Middle East. Trump has previously threatened to come to the aid of people protesting the Iranian government’s crackdown, which led to more than 3,110 deaths, according to the Tehran regime’s own figures on January 23.
Iran has also been preparing for a sustained US attack on its key installations in recent hours, with unrecognised vessels currently clustering in the Gulf of Oman.
