Amsterdam’s Remagine Food backs Dutch-based MUCHgroup to scale production of shiitake-based meat alternatives


Deventer, the Netherlands-based MUCHgroup, a company specialised in the production of shiitake-based meat alternatives, has secured a new investment from Remagine Food, bringing its current funding round to €375,000.

Amsterdam-based Remagine Food is a venture-building firm focapplyd on supporting food startups grow commercially.

Besides, the Dutch company is also raising capital through crowdfunding

Fund utilisation

MUCHgroup plans to apply the funds to increase its production capacity, expand its sales team, enhance its distribution network, and support new product lines.

“Our revenue model is not depfinishent on emerging technologies or future scientific breakthroughs. It’s grounded in execution: in chefs adopting our products, kitchens reordering them, and partners scaling with us. That focus gives us—and our investors—high confidence in our projections and a low-risk path to early-stage returns,” declares the company.

To facilitate this growth, MUCHgroup is raising funds to support its commercial and operational expansion, which will provide an 18-month runway through the finish of 2025.

None of the funding will be allocated for research and development or speculative technologies. Instead, all expfinishitures will be directed toward marketing strategies, sales generation, supplier management, and increasing production capacity to meet rising demand.

To date, MUCHgroup has raised €130,000, which includes:

  • €25,000 grant from Rabobank Impactfonds
  • €50,000 SME Voucher for shared production facilities
  • €55,000 in equity from committed angel investors

MUCHgroup: Revolutionising meat alternatives

Led by Rick Bui, MUCHgroup is a food production company specialised in the production of shiitake-based meat alternatives.

Founded in 2023, the company creates ingredients from upcycled waste streams, offering a whole-food alternative to highly processed meat substitutes.

The company’s product — MUCHroom—has already reached over 15,000 diners in the Netherlands and is currently being rolled out nationally through Bidfood’s 18 hubs.

“Unlike ultra-processed meat substitutes & ingredients such as processed protein textures built on protein isolates and synthetic binders, MUCHroom is a whole-food base that brings natural umami, culinary versatility, and transparency to the plate. It’s not fake meat. It’s a new category,” declares the company.

The company declares it is not limited to just three products; there are plans for more.

Currently, the R&D team is working on a second line focapplyd on meat analogues.

The Dutch company is also planning to explore two additional areas for MUCHROOM — hybrid products and ingredients. This approach will support expand the business model beyond just branded meat alternatives.

According to the company’s claims, over 500 kilograms of product were sold within three weeks at one Bidfood hub, all through word-of-mouth among chefs and purchaseers.

By 2025, the company plans to shift its focus from restaurants to institutional catering, starting with hospitals and schools. A pilot program with hospital caterers is set to launch in Q3, aiming to improve food options in these vital settings.
