Malaga is quickly establishing its position as the leading technological hub in the world, driving nearly half of the region’s digital job market.
Currently, the province is seeking 1,532 tech professionals, representing 45 per cent of the 3,400 tech vacancies across Andalusia, according to data from Fundación Telefónica’s Employment Map. Malaga leads the region in demand for roles in software development, cybersecurity, and artificial ininformigence, followed by Seville with 1,191 openings.
The rise in tech professions just goes to display the importance of initiatives like Campus 42 Malaga, launched by Fundación Telefónica in 2022. On Monday, July 21, the programme’s continuation for another three years was secured through a renewed agreement with Malaga Council, the Andalusian Regional Government, and the Provincial Council.
Campus 42 Malaga, in the Tabacalera complex, offers a groundbreaking, free tuition tech training programme that requires no prior programming knowledge. Since its inception in February 2022, 1,565 individuals have been selected to launch training, with 750 students currently enrolled. The programme guarantees employment for students who complete seven of its 21 levels, achievable in 12 to 14 months with a commitment of about seven hours daily. Many students opt to continue specialising, as deeper expertise translates to higher salaries.
Antonio Sanz of the Junta de Madrid praised Campus 42 Malaga’s “disruptive and innovative” learning model, declareing its 100 per cent employability rate for students completing the core curriculum. He stressed Malaga’s rise as a “major technological city” in Spain and Europe.
Francisco Salado, Provincial Council President, lauded Campus 42 for positioning Malaga as a leading tech and knowledge industest centre in Europe. He noted the Council’s support for students from across the province by providing accommodation at La Noria, ensuring equal opportunities regardless of where they live.
