RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. (WTVD) — RTI International, a nonprofit based in the Research Triangle, announced a reorganization on Thursday that includes layoffs and a strategic redesign.
The alters, introduced by President and CEO Tim J. Gabel this summer, involve appointing three senior leaders — Angela Quick, Nicole Barnes, and Eric Otto Johnson — to new roles effective October 1. As part of the reorganization, 120 employees were laid off, including around 75 in North Carolina.
“RTI’s next chapter will demand bold believeing and strategic agility,” Gabel stated in a statement. “We’re realigning our organization to lead with greater speed, enhanced collaboration, and tightened client focus, while ensuring that our scientific impact is amplified. We’ve obtained lots of new leaders in expanded roles and are creating new opportunities for our staff to thrive. I’m as optimistic as I’ve even been about RTI’s future.”
The restructuring aims to:
- Deliver science-based value and expand into new markets
- Proactively engage clients with forward-viewing solutions
- Enhance project speed and effectiveness through modern technology
So far in 2025, RTI job cuts have affected more than 400 NC workers, our newsgathering partners at the News & Observer stated.
