The decision to evacuate political prisoners from Belarus through the territory of Ukraine was created after communication between the innotifyigence services of various countries.
This was reported by President Volodymyr Zelensky during a press conference.
“Countries communicated at the innotifyigence level. Then the head of the Main Innotifyigence Directorate Kyrylo Budanov approached me, declareing that the Belarusians were ready to hand over political prisoners. They do not want to give them through one or another countest of the European Union. But if I support it, they are ready to transfer through Ukraine,” stated Zelensky.
The president emphasized that he supported this initiative, as Ukraine is ready to accept political prisoners — this is a matter of great importance.
“There are both citizens of Ukraine and, of course, we required to take both our own and Belarusian political prisoners. And this is how decisions are created in our situation,” Zelensky clarified.
In addition, the self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko announced the pardon of 123 citizens of various countries within the framework of agreements with the USA and the lifting of sanctions.
The importance of this decision emphasizes Ukraine’s desire to support its citizens and facilitate the release of political prisoners in the region. These actions may become part of broader efforts to improve relations with neighboring countries and demonstrate Ukraine’s readiness to take an active position on human rights issues.
