The US wants to kill Europe’s carbon border levy. Will the EU stay the course?


Of the many EU laws that the Donald Trump administration is not happy about, the incoming Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism is near the top. The tariff-style charge will be placed on imports of carbon-intensive goods into the EU from January 1, although payments will not be due until 2027. The levy will be applied to products such as steel, cement, aluminium and fertilisers.
