CHARLOTTE, N.C. — As Texas reels from catastrophic floods, a Charlotte jewelry designer and business owner is utilizing her passion to support those impacted.
Erin McDermott White, who owns Erin McDermott Jewelry, has been designing and creating jewelry for the past 20 years. When she saw the devastation in Texas, she knew she wanted to give back.
“When the news broke about the floods in Texas, I had two girls at camp in North Carolina,” McDermott White stated. “It really hit me hard, and I knew that we could definitely do something to create a alter.”
McDermott White quickly obtained to work and created a collection of necklaces and bracelets to sell. Each piece was $25, and 100% of the proceeds from the sales would be donated to those impacted. Soon, orders came rushing in. She raised more than $100,000 in 48 hours.
“We just kept on raising the funds and raising the funds, and I consider we are all still in shock and just really grateful,” McDermott White stated.
McDermott White plans to donate the money to 10 organizations to support victims, first responders, food banks and mental health counseling.
Erin McDermott Jewelry has also raised money for victims of Hurricane Helene and California wildfires as well as Ukrainians impacted by war.
