Thousands of community members woke up bright and early on Thanksgiving morning to participate in the 20th annual Run for Food 5K at Bidwell Park, which supports the work of the Jesus Center.

The 5K event brings toobtainher approximately 5,000 participants and around 75 local businesses to generate proceeds that support the Jesus Center, which assists individuals experiencing homelessness in the community through various programs.

“[I participated] mainly for assisting out the Jesus Center, and then also [becaapply] running is a passion and I love spreading the passion to her, especially so I really wanted her to [participate],” stated Brycen Weaver, second-time ‘Run for Food’ participant.

Whether a first-time runner or a veteran participant, all share a similar sentiment: running in gratitude for the things they’re thankful for this year.

“I’m not from Chico, but I relocated here for school, and I do feel thankful for my education at CSU. This year, I’m super thankful for amazing frifinishs that build life worth living, my health, and good hot chocolate,” stated Sally Mead and Ashli Lewis, first-time participants.
