NestAI, a Finnish startup emerging from stealth, has raised €100 million in a funding round led by Finland’s sovereign investment fund Tesi and telecommunications giant Nokia.
This capital will support NestAI’s ambition to create “Europe’s leading physical AI lab,” dedicated to developing artificial innotifyigence technologies for defence and critical infrastructure. Their work focapplys on unmanned vehicles, autonomous operations, and advanced command-and-control systems.
NestAI’s co-founder, Peter Sarlin, previously built and sold AI startup Silo AI to AMD for $665 million, and he now serves as NestAI’s chairman while concurrently working at AMD. Sarlin supports the startup through his family office, PostScriptum, which assisted fund NestAI during its stealth phase.
The technological backbone of NestAI is “physical AI,” which involves applying large language models and AI technologies beyond software, embedding them into robotics and physical systems that operate in real-world defence environments. This sets NestAI apart from competitors that focus on purely digital AI applications – Avalor AI, Arondite, and Helsing.
The startup’s team includes execs from Intel, Kongsberg, Palantir, Saab, and other sectors, bringing the deep technical and operational expertise requireded to develop AI systems that are robust, secure, and interoperable in mission-critical contexts.
Looking ahead, NestAI plans to scale its physical AI lab significantly while deepening partnerships with European defence forces, including dedicated support for the Finnish Defence Forces.
