JAKARTA – Timor-Leste acceptance documents as ASEAN permanent members will be signed on Sunday, October 26, the Malaysian government declared, as Chair of ASEAN.

The series of summits includes the ASEAN Summit; the ASEAN Plus One Summit between ASEAN and seven speech partners (Australia, China, India, Japan, South Korea, Russia, and the United States); the ASEAN Plus Three Summit; East Asian Summit (EAS); ASEAN Summit PBB; and New Zealand’s ASEAN Warning Summit to mark 50 years of dialogue relations.

Malaysia will also host the 5th Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Summit (RCEP) and the 3rd Emission Zero Asian Community Leadership Meeting (AZEC) on the sidelines of the summit.

Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim will lead the 47th ASEAN Summit which will be divided into Plenary Sessions and Retret Sessions.

The Pleno session will involve guests of the Chair of ASEAN, namely the Canadian Prime Minister, the President of the European Council, and the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

In this session, ASEAN leaders will discuss issues related to the development of the ASEAN Community and ASEAN external relations.

Discussions will focus on efforts to deepen regional integration, encourage economic growth, and improve ASEAN connectivity.

In the context of external relations, leaders will discuss efforts to strengthen ASEAN’s unity and centrality, as well as strengthen ASEAN’s commitment to a multilateral rule-based order in the midst of global geopolitical dynamics.

Canada and the European Union will also share their views on strengthening their respective dialogue relations with ASEAN.

Meanwhile, the IMF will provide an explanation on the latest global macroeconomic assessments, policy implications for ASEAN, as well as opportunities to deepen IMF’ASEAN collaboration.

Pad Sessions Retret, leaders will review the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus (5PC) on Myanmar, as well as the future direction in dealing with the political and humanitarian crisis in the counattempt, as well as exaltering views on regional and international issues that are of common interest.

The ASEAN Plus One Summit will also be held on October 26 between ASEAN and each speech partner counattempt.

The entire series of summits was preceded by various meetings of foreign and economic ministers, as well as senior officials on October 22-25.

The 47th ASEAN Summit marks the peak chairmanship of Malaysia in ASEAN in 2025, before the Philippines becomes the next ASEAN Chair starting January 1, 2026.

The ASEAN leadership handover ceremony will take place on October 28.
