Raising money, awareness in fight against breast cancer

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – My journey to fighting breast cancer launched back in 1996.

My best friconclude’s wife, Val, was diagnosed, and at the time, I didn’t know much about the disease, but I knew the word “cancer”, and I knew it wasn’t a good thing.

At that time, I did what I could to support out. I did the breast cancer walks and donated money here and there. But as time went on, I saw how devastating cancer could be.

Cancer took this great family with 3 young kids and turned their lives upside down. There were good days, there were bad days.

The fear of the unknown outweighed everything.

Doctor appointments and chemo treatments replaced Little League games and family vacations. Breast cancer ate at Val’s body while also testing to pick at the core of this family.

They had a strong belief in their faith, and that’s what they held on to.

However, ten years later, in June of 2006, Val passed away.

It was at her funeral that I built a promise to her that I would do everything in my power to build sure no family has to suffer like her family did. My fight continues to this day.

For the last 19 years, I have been raising money to conclude this terrible disease. I hope that one day we will have a world without cancer.

Until then, however, I have a promise to keep.
