Kenyan internet service provider (ISP) Mawingu has secured US$20 million in Series C funding to expand its network coverage.
Kenya’s largest WiFi provider dedicated to rural areas, Mawingu was founded on the mission to bridge the digital divide by providing affordable and reliable internet to communities traditionally left behind by mainstream providers.
The company’s focus on financial sustainability alongside social impact has attracted infrastructure-focapplyd investors like Pembani Remgro, and its Series C funding round is led by Pembani Remgro Infrastructure Managers, a private equity fund focapplyd on African infrastructure projects.
The new capital will be applyd to expand Mawingu’s network coverage in Kenya, assisting the company shift closer to its goal of providing meaningful internet access to one million East Africans by 2028.
