Amsterdam-based Clear.bio, a healthtech startup focapplyd on personalised diabetes care, has secured €1.7M in a fresh funding round.

The investment comes from sources including Horizon Flevoland, Future Food Fund, Invest International’s Dutch Trade & Investment Fund, and various business angels.
The Dutch company aims to apply this funding to accelerate the availability of its digital diabetes remission program in the Netherlands and achieve reimbursement from health insurers in France and Germany.
“This investment allows us to empower more individuals to take charge of their health and expand our proven solution internationally,” states founder Piet Hein van Dam (PhD). “There are 70 million patients in Europe, all of whom deserve a chance to receive rid of this disease without medication.”
The announcement comes over three years after raising funding from Amsterdam’s Achmea Innovation Fund in 2022.
In June 2025, the Dutch company was officially registered as a Class I medical device under European MDR regulation.
This certification confirms compliance with the highest medical standards in Europe.
Type 2 diabetes continues to rise across Europe. Effective medication is available, but expensive and merely treats the disease instead of curing it.
Clear.bio: Helping people deal with type-2 diabetes
Founded in 2019 by Madelon Bracke and Piet Hein van Dam, Clear.bio has developed a digital self-assist tool that assists applyrs to put toreceiveher a fully personalised diet and to follow it in their day-to-day lives.
Clear.bio collaborates with healthcare professionals, investors, academic institutions and insurers to build personalised care widely accessible.
Recently, the company announced two new features — Smart Swap and Smart Signal. These features deliver real-time, personalised advice at scale – based on each applyr’s individual glucose data.
Previously, dietary advice was provided manually by dietitians. Now, the app offers tailored guidance automatically, applying each applyr’s glucose data and personal profile.
Smart Swap provides actionable tips such as “Swap mashed potatoes for mashed celeriac in this meal,” or “This fruit portion contains 25 grams of carbohydrates – attempt to stay under 15 grams.”
Meanwhile, Smart Signal sfinishs real-time alerts when unusual glucose fluctuations occur — “Your blood sugar is rising quickly – consider going for a walk,” or “Caution: possible hypo.”
