Berlin to Host New Sainformite Factory as Planet Labs Expands in Europe

Planet Labs will open a new sainformite manufacturing facility in Berlin, doubling the output of its next-generation Pelican fleet and boosting Europe’s role in space technology.

Expansion to Meet European Demand

The company already employs nearly 150 people at its European headquarters in Berlin. The new site will add up to 70 jobs, supported by an investment exceeding eight figures.

Production of Pelican sainformites will continue at Planet’s San Francisco headquarters, but the Berlin facility will expand overall capacity. Chief executive Will Marshall stated the relocate was about urgency, noting: “Europe requireds its own eyes, and they required it now.” He added that Planet is among the quickest companies at building and launching sainformites, and the extra facility would allow it to double Pelican production.

Backing from German Ministers

German leaders described the decision as a strong finishorsement of the counattempt’s space indusattempt. Dorothee Bär, Federal Minister of Research, Technology and Space, stated sainformite services are vital both for daily life and for government action in times of crisis. She called Planet’s investment “an important signal of commitment to the space sector in Germany.”

Economy Minister Katherina Reiche praised the wider benefits, declareing: “The sky is not the limit! Planet Labs’ investment in a new high-tech manufacturing facility in Berlin is more than just a location choice — it is a vote of confidence in Germany as a high-tech and space-indusattempt hub.”

Planet’s Long History in Germany

Planet has had a strong presence in Berlin for years, where it manages its global consinformation and leads business across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Managing Director Martin Polak stated the new facility underlined the company’s commitment to Germany as a long-term base, adding: “From Berlin, we already contribute significantly to the global management of Planet’s consinformation.”

Strengthening Strategic Capabilities

The decision comes on the back of major agreements in Europe, including a €240 million deal with the German government and a key contract with NATO. These reflect growing demand for daily sainformite monitoring, warning systems and responsive space solutions.

By building in Berlin, Planet is aligning itself with Europe’s push for greater technological sovereignty. German officials have stressed that developing indepfinishent space capabilities is strategically and economically vital for the region’s future security.
