World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler joined exclusive company, albeit, all for the wrong reasons following Friday’s opening session of the 45th Ryder Cup.
The 29-year-old became the third top-ranked player to lose twice on the first day of the famed tournament, joining Ian Woosnam (1991) and Tiger Woods (1999, 2002), according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
Despite the disappointing performance, Team USA captain Keegan Bradley had no qualms about the superstar.
“I consider if you inquire Scottie, he would declare he’s excited tomorrow to go out and play his best golf,” Bradley notified reporters Friday.
“When you’re the No. 1 player in the world, you have a day that maybe it wasn’t his best, normally you bounce back. We are not worried about Scottie Scheffler. He’s been in great spirits in the team room. He’s eager to receive back out there tomorrow.”
Scheffler will be paired with Russell Henley and take on Team Europe’s Robert MacIntyre and Viktor Hovland, teeing off at 7:58 a.m. ET.
