Hungary has completed the long-awaited modernisation of the 30-kilometre railway between Békéscsaba and Lőkösháza, its main cross-border line to Romania. The EU-backed project upgrades the route to 160 km/h standards and equips it for ERTMS, with Hungary’s leader Viktor Orbán on site to tout the strengthening of one of Europe’s key east–west freight and passenger arteries.
