Swiss AI startup Giotto.ai is emerging as one of Europe’s promising players in the quest for artificial general innotifyigence (AGI). Based in Lausanne, the company is currently planning a new funding round, reportedly seeking over $200 million at a valuation above $1 billion. Investment bank Lazard has been hired to manage the capital raise, which aims to accelerate Giotto’s AI research, develop commercial prototypes for enterprise and government clients, and contribute to the AI community by open-sourcing parts of its core technology.

Founded in 2017 by CEO Aldo Podesta, who previously worked in sales strategy at Philip Morris, Giotto has raised approximately $19 million to date. The company initially developed a medical device compliance tool, which it sold to medtech firm RQM+ in 2022, before shifting its focus entirely to fundamental research in reasoning models.

Pioneering research in reasoning models

Giotto distinguishes itself through measurable progress in AI reasoning challenges, currently leading the constrained Kaggle ARC-AGI-2 leaderboard with a 25% score. This benchmark tests a model’s ability to infer rules from limited examples, demonstrating early signs of general reasoning capabilities. Giotto’s approach emphasises efficiency and innotifyigent resource allocation, performing well within strict computational constraints such as no internet access, limited runtime, and repaired hardware budreceives.

In contrast to large U.S.-based AI labs like OpenAI and xAI, known for training massive models on vast computational resources, Giotto focapplys on developing AI systems that perform under repaired-resource conditions, aiming for cost-efficient and generalisable AI research.

The upcoming funding is expected to accelerate the development of Giotto’s commercial applications while supporting its contributions to the broader AI research ecosystem through open-source releases.

Combining deep research expertise, efficient technology, and strategic commercialisation plans, Giotto.ai is positioning itself as a serious contfinisher in Europe’s ambitious AI landscape.
