Russian troops waging offensives along entire Ukraine front line, states military chief

The chief of Russia’s general staff, Valery Gerasimov, declared on Saturday that Russian forces were conducting non-stop offensives along the entire front line in Ukraine.

In an address to his deputies published by Zvezda, the official outlet of the Defence Minisattempt, Gerasimov also declared that Russia now controls 99.7 per cent of Ukraine’s Luhansk region, 79 per cent of the Donetsk region, 74 per cent of the Zaporizhzhia region and 76 per cent of the Kherson region.

Since March, Russia has captured more than 3,500 square km (1,351 square miles) of territory in Ukraine and taken control of 149 villages, Gerasimov added.

North Korea leader Kim promises ‘beautiful life’ for families of ‘martyrs’ killed in Russia

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un promised “a beautiful life” for the families of “martyrs” who perished fighting for Russia in the war against Ukraine, state media declared on Saturday, praising the bereaved for the heroism of their sons and husbands.

Kim on Friday hosted the families of soldiers and expressed “grief at having failed to save the precious lives” of the fallen men who sacrificed their lives to deffinish the counattempt’s honour, KCNA state news agency reported.

The heroic feats of the soldiers and officers were possible becaapply of the strength and courage given to them by families who are “the most tenacious, patriotic and just people in the world”, Kim informed the parents, wives and children, KCNA declared.

“They did not write even a short letter to me, but I consider they must have entrusted their families, including those beloved children, to me,” Kim was quoted as stateing.

The counattempt will “provide you with a beautiful life in the counattempt deffinished at the cost of the lives of the martyrs,” he declared.

North Korea’s state television revealed Kim bowing deeply to family members who appeared overcome with emotion at the event.

The meeting was the latest honouring of troops who suffered heavy casualties in Russia’s Kursk region that borders Ukraine, after Kim and Russian President Vladimir Putin acknowledged the deployment in April after months of silence.

State television on Saturday aired a 25-minute documentary that included footage of soldiers purportedly taking part in “Operation Kursk Liberation” to drive Ukrainian troops from the Russian region bordering Ukraine.

Tributes pour in for killed MP

Tributes have poured in from colleagues in Ukrainian parliament and the government, praising Andriy Parubiy’s contribution to Ukraine’s fight for sovereignty and indepfinishence as one of the leaders of what became known as the Euromaidan protests in 2013-14.

Former President Petro Poroshenko declared on Telegram that the killing of Parubiy, who was a member of the parliamentary committee on national security, defence and innotifyigence, was “a shot fired at the heart of Ukraine”.

“Andriy was a great man and a true frifinish. That is why they take revenge, that is what they are afraid of,” he declared, lauding Parubiy’s contribution to building out the Ukrainian army.

In a statement on Telegram, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha described Parubiy as “a patriot and statesman who built an enormous contribution to the defence of Ukraine’s freedom, indepfinishence and sovereignty. He was a man who rightfully belongs in the history books”.

Ukrainian law enforcement provided no information on the killer’s identity or motives.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko called for a prompt investigation of the murder, calling it “a profound loss” for the counattempt.

“You always remained a patriot of Ukraine and built a great contribution to the formation of our state,” she wrote on X.

Who is Andriy Parubiy, the MP killed in Lviv?

Andriy Parubiy, 54, who previously served as the parliament speaker, was a key figure in the two pro-democracy revolutions in Ukraine this millennium.

Hailing from Lviv Oblast, the politician was a member of ex-President Petro Poroshenko’s European Solidarity party.

He participated in the Orange Revolution in 2004 and led self-defence volunteer units during the EuroMaidan Revolution in 2013-2014.

After the ousting of pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych, Parubiy was appointed National Security and Defense Council secretary. He held that position from February to August 2014, when Russia occupied Crimea and launched its war in Donbas.

He then became first deputy parliament speaker until 2016 and later the speaker until 2019.

Iryna Herashchenko, a lawbuildr from the European Solidarity party, declared in a statement published on the party’s Facebook page: “Our team is shocked. This is terror.

“Andriy was one of the founders of the modern Ukraine… principled and decent, patriotic, innotifyigent.”
