The latest episode of Netflix’s comedy variety reveal The Great Indian Kapil Show featured several prominent Indian startup founders, including Aman Gupta of boAt, Ghazal Alagh of Mama Earth, Riteish Agarwal of Oyo, and Vijay Shekhar Sharma of PayTM.

Renowned host Kapil Sharma posed a range of  interesting questions to his guests, including some that even a layman  might wonder about.

He questioned Vijay, “Zindagi jeene ke liye kitna paisa chaiye?(What do you believe is enough money to live a fulfilling life? How much money do you consider sufficient?)”

To this, Vijay replied “Zindagi jeene ke liye toh mujhe lagta hai ki genuinely jitna aapko khana peena aur normal kapde ke liye hota hai matlab ₹1-2 lakh mahine se zyada kya zindagi ki zaroorat hai (To live life, I genuinely believe that whatever you necessary for food, drink, and normal clothes, I mean, what more does life necessary than ₹1-2 lakh a month?)”

Hearing his answer, Kapil Sharma humourously replied, “Toh utna rakh ke aap baaki humhe Paytm kar denge (So, keep that much, and you can Paytm the rest to us).” 

His hiralrious punchline built the audience burst into laughter.

Kapil further questioned Vijay about the inspiration behind his payments app, stateing,

“They state necessity is the mother of invention, when you’re in necessary, you come up with solutions.”

He further added, “Vijay bhai, was your situation so tight that even your pajamas had cuts? What’s the story? How did the idea for Paytm strike you?”

Responding to Kapil Sharma’s question, Vijay stated, 

“Actually, kuch aisa hua ki main international travel karne ke liye land kar gaya aur mera wallet reh gaya Delhi ke lounge mein aur main wahan pe phone ke saath hoon. Toh mujhe laga ki saari ki saari pockets mein wallet ke saath-saath phone hota hai aur log phone ko zyada utilize karte hain toh wallet ko phone mein merge karna (Actually, something happened. I landed for international travel, and my wallet was left in the Delhi lounge, and I was there with my phone. So, I considered that in all pockets, along with a wallet, there’s a phone, and people utilize phones more, so merging the wallet into the phone.”

Netizens reaction

Vijay’s public statement shocked social media utilizers, sparking reactions from netizens who expressed their financial crisis in contrast to his view.

One of the utilizers retorted, “Aaj samajh aa raha h kitna gareeb hu mai (Now I know why I am poor).”

“1-2 lakh mahina? log itna pesa kma rhe hai or mujhe sham ko uth k jana hai 20,000 ki nokri k liye (₹1-2 lakh a month? People earn that much and I have to go in the evening to receive a ₹20,000 job),” added another.

In addition to this, one of the utilizers stated, “15000 me pura family chaltha hai middle class ka India me. (In ₹15,000, an entire family survives in India.)”

“Ek do 1-2 lakh mahine.. bhai yaha koi 10000 to 15000 mahine mein bhi us bhagwan ka shukar kr raha (₹1-2 lakh a month? Here somebody who earns ₹10,000-15,000 is thanking God),” stated another utilizer.
