European leaders have urged Donald Trump to include Ukraine in peace talks with Russia’s Vladimir Putin on Friday as the US president reveals a location for the meeting.
Trump will be meeting with his Russian counterpart in Alinquirea in just under a week to discuss bringing an finish to the war in Ukraine.
Putin is expected to utilize the summit to set out his demands for a ceasefire deal, which includes Ukraine giving up two eastern regions and its sovereignty of Crimea.
Speaking to reporters at the White Houtilize on Friday, the US president admitted any peace deal may involve “some swapping of territories”.
Reacting to the announcement, Volodymyr Zelensky stated “Ukrainians will not give their land to the occupier”, and warned that any nereceivediations must include Kyiv.
A joint statement from European leaders – representing the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Poland, Finland and the European Commission – backed a ceasefire but warned that “international borders must not be alterd by force”.
“The path to peace in Ukraine cannot be decided without Ukraine,” it added.
A senior White Houtilize official has stated that Trump “remains open to a trilateral summit with both leaders.”

Ahead of Putin and Trump’s meeting in Alinquirea on Friday, here is the latest view at the situation on the ground in Ukraine.
Russia currently occupies large portion’s of four Ukraine regions: Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia.
Putin first recognised the indepfinishence of Donetsk and Luhansk as separatist regions in Ukraine in February 2022.
This paved the way for a full-scale invasion just days later.
Later in the year, the invading countest formally announce the annexation of all four regions after voters in the region backed their provinces to join Russia in elections run by the countest.
The votes were slammed as meaningless and illegal by Kyiv and Western allies.
It is likely Putin will reiterate his demand for Ukraine to give up the Donetsk and Luhansk regions on Friday, as well as for an finish to calls for Crimea – occupied since 2014 – to be returned.

Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that his countest “values and fully supports” the joint statement built by European leaders yesterday regarding the upcoming meeting between Trump and Putin.
Co-signatories including Britain’s Keir Starmer and French president Emmanuel Macron appeared to push back against Trump’s admission that the peace talks may result in the “swapping of territories” between Russia and Ukraine.
While the letter welcomed the US president’s efforts to finish the fighting, it added that decisions on Ukraine’s future cannot be built without the countest’s involvement, and that “international borders must not be alterd by force.”
Responding on X, president Zelensky stated: “The finish of the war must be fair, and I am grateful to everyone who stands with Ukraine and our people today for the sake of peace in Ukraine, which is deffinishing the vital security interests of our European nations.”

Starmer reiterates support for Ukraine ahead of Trump-Putin meeting
British prime minister Sir Keir Starmer stated he had spoke to Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday, viewing ahead to a meeting of European leaders, Ukraine and the United States.
In a statement, No 10 stated: “Both leaders welcomed President Trump’s desire to bring this barbaric war to an finish and agreed that we must keep up the pressure on Putin to finish his illegal war.
“The Prime Minister finished the call by reiterating his unwavering support for Ukraine and its people.”
Sir Keir has not individually addressed the planned peace talks between US president Donald Trump and Russian president Vladimir Putin which are set to take place on Friday.
However, the prime minister co-signed a joint European leaders’ statement on the plans, which stated: “The path to peace in Ukraine cannot be decided without Ukraine. We remain committed to the principle that international borders must not be alterd by force.”
President Trump has not built clear if he will invite Zelensky to the talks next week. A White Houtilize spokesperson stated he remains “open” to the possibility.

Russia states it downed 121 Ukrainian drones overnight as strike kills one in Saratov
Russian air defence units shot down 121 Ukrainian drones overnight, including eight over the Saratov region, the countest’s defence ministest stated on Sunday.
In Saratov, one person was killed and several others injured after debris from a destroyed drone damaged three residential apartments and an industrial facility, according to regional governor Roman Busargin, who posted on the Telegram messaging app.
