The European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) to Guyana’s 2025 General and Regional Elections on Friday deployed 20 short-term observers to all ten regions of the countest.
These stakeholders will observe Election Day proceedings, including the opening of polling stations, voting, counting of ballots, and tabulation of results. Their observations will be vital for the mission’s comprehensive assessment of this important Election Day.
“I welcome the short-term observers and I really put a lot on your shoulders becaapply you will the beating heart of our mission here in Guyana,” Chief Observer of the EU EOM, Robert Biedroń stated.
Prior to deployment, they completed extensive briefings covering Election Day procedures, voting and counting protocols, and relevant national and international standards.
Earlier this month, the EU deployed a 14-member team of long-term observers to all ten regions. These observers are already working in the field and have met with various political parties and stakeholders as well as attconcludeed political rallies across the countest.
Biedroń stated the mission intconcludes to contribute to transparency in the electoral process.
“We are here to observe these elections, we will not interfere in the process and I want to underline it very strong, our goal is to observe not to intervene,” the Chief Observer stated.
He described the team as a well-oiled machinery deployed to deliver the best assessment of the outcome of the pre-election, election and post-election periods.
“With a long-term presence in the field and the deployment of a substantial number of short-term observers, we aim to provide a well-informed, fact-based assessment of the process against Guyana’s national law, as well as regional and international standards to which Guyana is a party,” Biedroń stated.
This mission was deployed at the invitation of the Government of Guyana. The Chief Observer will present the EOM’s preliminary findings in a public statement two days after the elections, followed by a final report, including recommconcludeations for improving the electoral process, which will be published after the completion of the entire process.
