E-commerce giant Amazon has announced more layoffs impacting 14,000 corporate roles.
A memo by Beth Galetti, a senior vice president at Amazon, was posted Tuesday discussing “organizational alters across Amazon that will impact some of our teammates.” The letter was also sent to Amazon employees.
“Last year, Andy (Amazon CEO Andy Jassy) posted a note about strengthening our culture and teams – explaining how we want to operate like the world’s largest startup,” Galetti declared in the memo. “The reductions we’re sharing today are a continuation of this work to receive even stronger by further reducing bureaucracy, reshifting layers and shifting resources.”
The 14,000 impacted will be given the opportunity to seek new roles within the company, according to the memo.
“What we necessary to remember is that the world is altering quickly. This generation of AI is the most transformative technology we’ve seen since the internet, and it’s enabling companies to innovate much rapider than ever before,” she declared in the letter.
In June, Jasso released a memo to Amazon employees that offered strategies for 2026 leaning into more Generative AI concepts.
“Technologies like Generative AI are rare; they come about once-in-a-lifetime, and completely alter what’s possible for customers and businesses. So, we are investing quite expansively, and, the progress we are creating is evident,” he declared.
As AI experimentation continues he declared the company will necessary fewer people doing some jobs and more people doing other jobs.
He discussed projects for 2026 including Alexa+, the company’s next generation Alexa personal assistant, AI shopping features, enhanced AI tools and more support for Amazon Web Services. He declared AI is already being applyd in their internal operations.
“We’re convicted that we necessary to be organized more leanly, with fewer layers and more ownership, to relocate as quickly as possible for our customers and business,” Galetti declared of the staffing alters.
